Orthodox Marriage Rehearsal

 

  • PROCESSION ORDER:
  1. Godparents
    • Groom
    • Bride
  2. Grandparents
    • Groom
    • Bride
  3. Mother & Father of the Groom
  4. Mother of Bride with escort
  5. Bridesmaids (either solo or with Groomsmen)
  6. Maid of Honor
  7. Flower girl
  8. Ring bearer (priest unties the rings and places them on Gospel Book)
  9. Bride with Father

 

  • At Solea:
    • Groomsmen meet Bridesmaid: Walk in bow and sign of cross then split.
    • Groom & Best Man: Stay with Clergy at Altar.
    • Dad raises veil and kisses daughter and gives her hand to the priest.
    • Priest takes her hand and brings her to Solea…and Groom stands next to her.
    • Men on Christ’s side; Women on Mary’s side.
    • Betrothal: Traditionally in vestibule, but we do it on Solea.

 

  • Paperwork
    1. Need Marriage Certificate; Bring both copies.
    2. We keep original and give it to Church Office.
    3. They keep copy.
    4. We have Archdiocese certificate for Best Man & Maid of Honor to sign.

 

  • NOTES:
    • Get all the paperwork & contributions out of the way at Rehearsal.
    • Find out if they will have their own crown and candles or will St. George provide.
    • Wedding MUST START ON TIME!
    • Come early rather than hold up everyone!
    • Get rings from Best Man prior to service if no ring bearer.
    • Make sure Guards know about wedding rehearsal.
    • Make sure office arranges for parking for both rehearsal & wedding.
